Here are my top tips for travelling with a child

My top tip is be prepared… I am one of those parents that will travel with literally everything I need just in case. Which may seem excessive and it doesn’t work for everyone, but I just like to be prepared in case things are not available where we are travelling.

When travelling with a child I would recommend taking enough nappies for the duration plus extras in case of any delays.
Taking enough pre made little bottles of formula night time bottle/cup of milk in the event that you don’t have a fridge to store fresh milk in. Of your child is still having milk.

This seems an obvious tip but do your research on your destination, the temperature, making sure you pack appropriately, particularly jackets etc for the evenings if it’s going to be slightly cooler.
Have a look and see it is mostly pram accessible or if you would be better with a baby carrier/sling for getting around? How do you plan on reaching your destination on landing? taxi, hire car, train or private transfer. The last thing you want after a flight with a child is being stuck at the airport not knowing where to go next.

A cabin approved pram is brilliant, we have previously travelled with his travel system, but a small cabin approved one can be so useful. Especially if it goes on the plane with you, then your little one can go straight back in it especially if it’s an evening flight and they’re asleep or facing queues at passport control.
We have the Ickle Bubba Globe which folds down small and also has a strap so you can throw it over your shoulder if you little one wants to walk. Ickle Bubba Pram

Another item which I don’t use a whole lot at home but are great when abroad are reigns, as they fit in his nappy bag but are brilliant when exploring somewhere new and possibly busy.
As we like to explore cities that can get crowded this way your little one has the freedom to explore on their own two feet but you have control of them at the same time. These were the first ones we bought for Teddy when he first started walking. Little life safety reins they come in a wide range of designs

We frequently switch between the two. A bonus is the backpack aspect of some of them as Teddy gets very excited when he knows he’s carrying his own sunglasses or snacks in his own bag!

A small travel fan that attaches to the pram is also a brilliant idea as they can be extremely portable but just gives you that extra peace of mind that your little one isn’t going to get too hot especially when taking a nap or are in the pram for long periods of time. Travel Fan

Make sure you have a good quality insurance policy that covers your whole family. There are various options including one off trips or multi trip policies. You can either cover your whole family on one policy or individually.
For ease we use a multi trip policy, which covers us all and means our documents are all in one place. Just make sure you look through the countries covered options as some of the basic ones only include Europe and you must upgrade for Rest of the world which can be including or not including the USA which again you need to pay extra for. Cruise/Ski cover are also popular add ons.
