Essential items for travelling with a child.

A plentiful supply of sun cream, and a brand that you know your baby/toddler is used to. Teddy had a reaction to one particular suncream on his face in Florida, which we hadn’t used before. I’m unsure why this happened but I do know that it’s not uncommon for some suncreams to not agree with small children especially on their delicate faces.

Speaking of sun protection our travel system that we took away when he was very little had a factor 50 hood on it so that was great that he had a lot of protection for his skin, especially when he was napping and we could pull it fully over him.  Other than that we have also used a small umbrella attached to the pram to keep the sun off him. We used the Riogoo parasol

A favourite blanket or stuffed animal, if your little one if attached to one then bring it as it can help them settle in unfamiliar places. So make sure you have your child’s favourite to hand, just don’t leave it on the aeroplane……

Essential items for travelling for a child most definitely include a stash of snacks which is great for the plane and just saves money on potentially having to buy expensive snacks whilst out and about therefore having to deviate from your plan for that day. For more fussier kids it could help having foods with you that they are familiar with if you are in a country where the foods differ greatly.

Ella’s kitchen sachets and bars are great as they are individually packed. Crackers, and boxes of raisins/other dried fruits are great as they are things that are not going to need a fridge or keeping cool. The benefit of this is you end up with loads of space in your suit case for souvenirs once all the snacks and nappies are gone!

We also took this Tommee Tippee Easy scoop bowl with us whilst Teddy was tiny as it was really practical keeping all his bowls and spoons together to take out during the day, with minimal mess!

Plenty of baby wipes as well, not only for nappy changes but for sticky fingers and wiping the trays down on the  airplane seat and anything else your child may come in to contact with.

Take bottles/bottle brush when you travel, I have also in the past decanted a bottle of fairy liquid in to a small bottle and taken that in my hold luggage (in a ziplock bag) to avoid any spillages. This meant I could thoroughly wash his bottles/cups when we are away. Bottle starter kit

When he was younger and still needed his bottles sterilising we would choose an an apartment as this was easy as we had the kitchen facilities and I would take a Tommee Tippee travel steriliser. Whereas if it was a hotel and I was not able to use the steriliser I would take a bottle of Milton sterilising solution for those situations. Travel steriliser

The Tommee Tippee Baby Healthcare kit. This is fantastic and I use it at home all the time but it’s also great for travelling as it’s so compact and has essentials like a thermometer and little nail scissors that you may have forgot to individually pack. Baby health care kit

Disposable bibs, these are much easier if you have a child who is ploughing through numerous bibs a day then having to bring week’s worth of food stained bibs back home with you for washing, you just simply bin them once you are finished.

Beach holidays, pools will require nappy aged children to be fully protected against any accidents so I would recommend a water proof nappy which you can get at any supermarket and then also a Happy Nappy to go over the top. Happy nappy
